    Because compressed air inevitably contains solid, liquid, gas and other impurities, and each has its own characteristics, which cannot be achieved with a single device, compressed air drying and purification becomes a system. A complete compressed air drying and purification system includes: 1) gas-liquid separator;  2) Filter;  3) drying equipment and other facilities.
     
    (1) Gas-water separator The function of the gas-liquid separator is to pretreat the compressed air and separate the condensed liquid in the compressed air as 100% as possible.  The gas-liquid separator is usually installed at the front of the compressed air system.  According to the mechanism of gas-liquid separation, cyclone separator, louver separator and vortex separator are often used.
     
    (2) Filter filter plays a key role in compressed air drying and purification system.  Different filters can be used to remove oil (including liquid and gas), solid impurities, microorganisms, harmful gases and other pollutants in compressed air.
     
    Filters are ubiquitous in compressed air drying and purification systems.  In industrial production, filters used in compressed air systems are usually divided into several categories according to their applications: oil removal filters, dust removal filters, degerming filters and special filters.  Oil removal filter is the most widely used filter. Its main function is to remove oil mist (colloid) from compressed air.  For example, the OIL-X series filter of domnick hunter company in uk.  This type of filter is also called Coalescing filter, which can be divided into:
     
    1) Primary/coarse filter: filtering accuracy less than or equal to 25μ m;
     
    2) fine filter: the filtering precision is less than or equal to 1μ m;  The residual oil content is 1.0PPm;;
     
    3) High-precision filter: the filtering precision is less than or equal to 0.1μm, and the residual oil content is 0.1ppm;;
     
    4) Super filter: the filtering accuracy is less than or equal to 0.01μm, and the residual oil content used in series with activated carbon filter is less than or equal to ≤0.03ppm.
     
    It should be pointed out that in the performance indexes of such filters, the residual oil refers to liquid oil and does not include gas oil.  Dust removal filter, strictly speaking, dust removal filter and oil removal filter are of the same type, with the difference that dust removal filter is commonly used at the outlet of adsorption dryer (see relevant data for details).  Sterilization filter is a sanitary filter, which mainly removes microorganisms in compressed air. It should be pointed out that the sterilization filter must be treated with an oil removal filter before it is used.  Special filter, the most typical special filter is activated carbon filter, which can filter out some harmful gases and peculiar smell in compressed air and belongs to chemical filter.  (3) Drying Equipment Drying equipment is equipment for removing moisture. The following types are commonly used:
     
    1) adsorption drying equipment
     
    2) freeze drying equipment
     
    3) combined freezing and adsorption drying equipment
     
    4) Other drying equipment, such as membrane drying, chemical absorption drying, etc.  The first three will be discussed in later chapters.  Membrane drying equipment is characterized by power consumption. Due to the limitation of membrane raw materials, it is currently impossible to produce dryers with a large processing capacity (the maximum is about 1m3/min). In addition, the air loss of membrane dryers is relatively large, generally more than 15%.
